Quem somos

CADIn
An Innovative Center for Children with Developmental Disabilities

Children with developmental disorders and their families need comprehensive assessment and intervention.

A non-for profit institution, privately funded, with the goal of providing the best clinical care, teaching and research in the field of developmental disabilities was created in Cascais, Portugal in 2003.

Private funds constitute the “social fund”, and were raised to allow access of low-income families to the Centre.

Aim: to create a Centre of excellence, where the needs of children, adolescent and adults with developmental disabilities are met.

CADIn (Centre for Support of Child Development)

has a staff of more than 40 special education teachers, psychologists, speech, physical and occupational therapists as well as child and adult psychiatrists, paediatricians and child neurologists.

Specialized groups in attention deficit disorder, autism spectrum disorders, specific learning disabilities, family therapy and support, and job training and integration were created.

Multiple conferences are held annually, both at the Centre premises and schools, and research projects were developed.

Affiliation with major universities was pursued.

More than 5000 families have been under our care, with about 1500 new patients each year.

1/3 of the patients receive financial support from the social fund.

In three years CADIn has gained a national reputation, and its members are frequently invited to train/inform the general public, as well as other professionals in the field, on the issues of their expertise.

Born as a Project in 2003, CADIn today proves that it is possible to gather a number of private corporations and financial institutions to create and support the foundation and running costs of a highly sophisticated child development centre, that does not discriminate children from low social or economic background.
